Setting the Connection preference
Set the connection preference for the communication device that you are using with your CLIÉ handheld.
Also, for some devices, the settings are automatically entered as you install the necessary drivers on to your CLIÉ handheld.
In this case, skip the settings described on this page and jump to “Setting the Network preferences.”
For details, see the operating instructions supplied with each device.

On the CLIE Launcher screen, rotate the Jog Dial navigator to select Prefs, and press the Jog Dial navigator.
Or, tap the Prefs icon on the CLIE Launcher screen.
The Preference screen appears.

Tap the arrow in the upper-right corner and select Connection from the drop-down list.
The Connection preference screen appears.

Tap New.
Edit Connection screen appears.



Name: Enter a desired name. (Ex. Modem 1)
Connect to: Specify the device to be connected. Select Modem here.
Via: Specify the connection root. Select Cradle/Cable here.
Dialing: Specify the phone system. Select TouchTone for the normal environment. Select Rotary when it is clear that the telephone service to be used is not a TouchTone.
Volume: Specify the volume of the modem speaker if it has speakers.

Tap Details.
Speed: Specify the baud rate at which this connection communicates between a modem and your CLIÉ handheld. Select 115,200 bps.
Select lower baud rate when selecting 115,200 bps causes any trouble.
Flow Ctl: Specify the flow control of the modem connection. Select Automatic, if not specified otherwise.
Init String: Input a modem initialization command. You do not need to change if it was not specified especially on the modem side.

Tap OK.
