Setting the Network preference
When you sign up to an Internet Service Provider, they will send you information on your settings. Based on this information, set up your CLIÉ handheld for the network connection. Once you have made the preference settings, you do not have to go through this process again.
Setting up ISP information

On the CLIE Launcher screen, rotate the Jog Dial navigator to select Prefs, and press the Jog Dial navigator.
Or, tap the Prefs icon on the CLIE Launcher screen.
The Preference screen appears.

Tap on the arrow and select Network from the drop-down list in the upper-right corner of the Preference screen.
The Network preference screen appears.



Service: Select the name of your provider.
If the name of your provider is not displayed on the list, tap Menu , Service, then New to enter the name of your provider.
User Name: Enter the user name specified by the provider.
Password: Input the registered password, when you contract with a provider.
Connection: Select the connection preference that you set up on “Setting the Connection preference”.
Phone: The Phone Setup screen appears. See step 3 for details.

Enter the information as necessary on the Phone Setup screen.



Phone #: Enter the phone number of your provider.
Dial prefix: If dial prefix is required to call outside line, tap the check box and enter the dial prefix.
Disable call waiting: If you have signed up for a call waiting cancellation service of your telecommunication company, tap the check box and enter the number.
Use calling card: When using your CLIÉ handheld in the United States, you can connect to the network using a calling card. Tap the check box and enter the calling card number.
Enter three or more commas before a number. Since there is waiting time before a calling card number is entered, put in commas and delay number input time. Transmission of a calling card number is overdue for two seconds with one comma.
The Phone Setup is compatible with AT&T and Sprint long distance services. If you are using MCI, enter the calling number in the Phone # column and input your phone number on the calling number column.

Tap OK.
The Network preference screen appears.
Note
If you cannot connect to the network, check to see if there are any extra space entered for User name or Password.
Setting up detailed preference
You may be required to enter additional information depending on the provider you are using. However, for most cases, you will be able to connect to the network by setting up the network preference as described above.

Tap Details on the Network preference screen.
The Details screen appears.

Tap the arrow next to the Connection type and choose an appropriate option.
PPP: Point to Point Protocol
SLIP: Serial Line Interface Protocol
CSLIP: Compressed Serial Line Interface Protocol
Select PPP if you do not know what to choose.
For details, contact your provider or an administrator of the dial up server.

Tap the arrow next to the Idle time-out, and select time for the network connection to shut down after terminating the application that uses a network.
1 Minute, 2 Minutes, 3 Minutes: If you switch to the application that does not use a network, network connection will be cut after 1 minute, 2 minutes, and 3 minutes, respectively (initial setting is 1 minute).
Never: Continues connecting to a network until you turn off your CLIÉ handheld. Note that this option incurs a toll charge.

Tap OK.
Tip
You can test the network connection by tapping Connect if you have your CLIÉ handheld connected to a communication device.
Using two or more providers and dial-up points
You can set up two or more providers and dial-up points on your CLIÉ handheld. For example, you can register the telephone number of access points near your office and your home respectively to use appropriate provider or dial-up point as necessary.
Registering a provider and a dial-up point newly
You can register a new provider and a dial-up point by following the procedure of “Setting up ISP information”.
When you are finished with the registration, confirm the newly registered information on the Network preference screen.
Changing the provider and the dial-up point

On the CLIE Launcher screen, rotate the Jog Dial navigator to select Prefs, and press the Jog Dial navigator.
Or, tap the Prefs icon on the CLIE Launcher screen.
The Preference screen appears.

Tap the arrow in the upper-right corner of the Preference screen to select Network from the drop-down list.

Tap Service and select a desired provider.
Changing the Network preference
You can change the Network preference on:

NetFront v3.0 for CLIE or the Network preference screen of the CLIE Mail application.
Changing on the Network preference screen
Tap the arrow in the upper-right corner of the Preference screen to select Network. You can make changes on the settings that you have made in “Setting up ISP information” on the displayed Network preference screen.
Changing on the preference screen of the NetFront v3.0 for CLIE and the CLIE Mail application
You can change settings such as proxy server settings and other items required for sending and receiving e-mail messages. For details, refer to the online manual of the NetFront v3.0 for CLIE application and the operating instructions for the CLIE Mail application.
