Requirements for SonicStage
System requirements
Before installing the SonicStage software, make sure that your computer meets the following hardware requirements.
IBM PC/AT compatible machine that fulfills all the following requirements.
Note that we do not assure trouble-free operation for NEC PC-98 series or its compatible machine. Also, the SonicStage software does not operate on a Macintosh computer.
- CPU: PentiumII 400 MHz or higher (PentiumIII 450 MHz or higher recommended)
- Hard disk drive space: 200 MB or more
(The required free space differs according to the version of your Windows® OS, or the amount of audio files that you handle.)
- RAM: 64 MB or higher (128 MB or more recommended for Windows® XP)
- Display: High Color or higher, 800 x 480 pixels or higher (800 x 600 pixels or higher recommended)
- CD-ROM drive (for installation and recording audio CDs)
- Sound Board
- USB port
Operating System:
- Windows® 98 Second Edition
- Windows® 2000 Professional
- Windows® Me
- Windows® XP Home Edition
- Windows® XP Professional
The following environments are not supported:
- Windows® 95, Windows® 98, Windows® NT
- A dual boot with any operating system
- Environment upgraded from any operating system
Internet access: for Web registration and EMD services

Notes on using the SonicStage software with Windows® 2000 / Windows® Millennium Edition / Windows® XP Professional
Notes on using the SonicStage software on Windows® 2000 or Windows® XP Professional
SonicStage software users with Windows® 2000/Windows® XP Professional models should be aware of the following:
Only Administrators are allowed to install and uninstall the SonicStage software.
For details on using the log on method in the account for administrators, refer to the help for your computer.
To use the application, log on with the user name Administrator or Power User.
Do not remove or insert a CD-ROM drive connected via a PC card while the SonicStage software is running.
Your important data may be lost.
Notes on performing the System Restore function on Windows® Millennium Edition / Windows® XP Home Edition / Windows® XP Professional
If you perform the System Restore function of System Tools on Windows® Me/Windows® XP Home Edition/Windows® XP Professional, the SonicStage database may be damaged and all music files recorded or imported may not play. Follow the steps below to back up and restore all audio files managed by the SonicStage software.
Before performing the System Restore function, back up your audio files using the SonicStage Backup Tool.
This will help prevent unwanted loss of your audio files.
After performing the System Restore function, restore your music files using the SonicStage Backup Tool.
This will help ensure the reliability of playback.
For details on using the SonicStage Backup Tool, refer to the online help for the SonicStage software.
Note
If audio files become unplayable because you executed System Restore, an error dialog box may appear when you try to play. In this case, follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
When you are using the OpenMG™ Jukebox software or the older version of the SonicStage software with other portable players or CLIÉ™ handhelds
When you install the SonicStage software on your computer, the OpenMG™ Jukebox software is uninstalled or updated, and the older version of the SonicStage software is uninstalled automatically. You can continue using all OpenMG™ Jukebox audio data in the SonicStage software. Follow the instructions of the SonicStage installer for installation.
Notes
Do not install OpenMG™ Jukebox Ver.1.x or 2.x to overwrite the SonicStage software. If they are overwritten, the registered tracks may be lost in the SonicStage software. If such installation accidentally starts, quit the process immediately.
Audio files backed up in the SonicStage software can only be restored in the SonicStage software. You cannot restore files in the OpenMG™ Jukebox software.
